Stockholm Art Book Fair at Spritmuseum, Stockholm 0

Stockholm Art Book Fair
Spritmuseum, Stockholm
17 - 19 April, 2015

The second edition of the Stockholm Art Book Fair will take place during Stockholm Art Week. Taking place over three days in April, Scandinavian publishers that focus on art, theory, and aesthetics will gather at the premises of Spritmuseum (The Museum of Spirits, on Djurgården near MARKET Art Fair) to present their latest publications. contacted Anna Eriksson, founder of the Stockholm Art Book Fair, to find out some more about the event.

What is the biggest difference between the Stockholm Art Book Fair and any other number of international book fairs?

Arguably the biggest difference is that, when it comes to invited speakers, we work with a theme within art. This is then linked to books in different ways. This year we have based our program upon the theme “(RE)TELLING”, in which we ask ourselves questions like “How do we participate in the retelling of history?” and “What happens when your story becomes someone else’s? “

How would you describe this year's exhibitors' scene?

There is such a proliferation this year! It’s definitely an interesting mix.

What would you say is the highlight of the fair's cultural program?

The inspiration for the theme “(RE)TELLING” is the artist Esther Shalev Gerz, one of the invited speakers. Her artistic practice circles around the questions that we want to highlight. Other speakers include author Charlotte Birnbaum, critic Fredrik Svensk, and curators Stefanie Hessler and Aura Seikkula, to name a few.

Can you highlight the best new arrivals in Scandinavian contemporary art publishing?

Well, among the younger publishers that participate in the fair are Moon Space Books, and Art and Theory. The latter is also one of the organizers of the fair. But I think that is one of the strengths of a publishing house like Art and Theory – that it is open to external collaborations with, for example, a curator like Alida Ivanov, to produce the Stockholm Art Book Fair.
