Robertas Narkus “Chance N° 5”
Oksasenkatu 11, Helsinki
May 2–4, 2012

Lithuanian artist Robertas Narkus opens an exhibition, which takes the form of a shoe store, titled “Chance N° 5”, at the gallery Oksasenkatu 11 in Helsinki. Performance and artist talk on May 4, 6 p.m.

Robertas Narkus describes his recent practice as management of chance in the economy of circumstances. The project evolves according to the principle of the domino effect, which involves chance encounters, collaborations and unpredictable (or rather predetermined?) activities and results. This time the pirouette of coincidences brings the artist and his story to Helsinki. The exhibition is open to visitors only a few days, from May 2 with a special closing evening on Friday, May 4, which will feature an artist talk and a special sale performance. “What does it take to find the right toe?”

“Chance N° 5” is a part in a chain of events called “12 and a Half Chances”.

Robertas Narkus (1983) graduated from Vilnius Academy of arts Media and photography department, works are exhibited in group exhibitions at Vilnius CAC, Tallinn Kunsthalle and Moscow Museum of Modern art.

Oksasenkatu 11 is an artist-run gallery and an artist collective located in the district of Töölö, in central Helsinki. The collective consists of nine artists with different practices, but with a shared interest in working outside the established and institutionalized art world. Today there is a growing demand among artists for regaining a certain sovereignty, and Oksasenkatu is a humble attempt in this direction.
