On April 11, with the presence of the Major of Vilnius city Artūras Zuokas and Mayor of Warsaw city Hanna Gronkiewicz - Waltz, Galerija Vartai revealed a contemporary Polish art exhibition dedicated to the 15th anniversary of cooperation between Vilnius and Warsaw.
The main focus of the exhibition Warsaw: The Day After… is the modern metropolis, which the curators and the twelve artists involved have tried to capture through installations, objects, as well as video and photography works. The title of the exhibition, however, refers to a popular film depicting an atomic apocalypse of the city, bringing together two visions: the city and its destruction.
As the organizers of the exhibition describe, there exists “an array of visions of the metropolis, one the one hand - utopian, construed on the basis of hope for the radical transformation of the city. On the other hand, dystopian, documenting the disappearance of a prior order. Warsaw becomes the heroine of this exhibition.”
The exhibition is curated by BWA Warszawa Gallery – Justyna Kowalska, Tomasz Plata and Michał Suchora.
Participating artists – Ewa Axelrad & Steve Press, Jan Dziaczkowski, Nicolas Grospierre, Agnieszka Kalinowska, Szymon Kobylarz, Zbigniew Libera, Aleksandra Polisiewicz, Konrad Pustoła, Kama Sokolnicka, Małgorzata Szymankiewicz, Wojtek Ziemilski
