Through November 5, the forthcoming Zuzeum Art Centre is showing the contemporary Israeli art exhibition Dreams and Dramas featuring the works of fourteen artists (Avner Ben-Gal, Eitan Ben-Moshe, Noa Eshkol, Dor Guez, Nir Hod, Erez Israeli, Daniel Kiczales, Sigalit Landau, Marik Lechner, Sagit Mezamer, Porat Salomon, Yehudit Sasportas, Keren Yeala Golan, and Guy Zagursky).

The exhibition is an emotionally loaded story imbued with dramatic mystery in which, as its curator the philosopher Roy Brand explains, “one can feel both the energetic vibrations of today’s Israel and the aspiration to reveal conflicts and dualities as the impulses that drive artists’ creative activity”. For the Baltics, this is the first-ever artistic representation of such great scale to come from this region – a fascinating window onto the art trends and forms of expression currently prevalent in Israel. Each artist’s specific style is emphasized, while at the same time giving the viewer a sense of seeing the whole picture.

Many of the featured artists traveled to Riga from Tel Aviv, Berlin or New York last week to be present at the opening of the show, and Arterritory took advantage of the chance to meet with them personally. The following video provides a quick overview of the exhibition, with notes and commentary from both the artists and the curator.

The Dreams and Dramas exhibition is a special project for Riga initiated and funded by the Riga-born businessman, collector, and patron of the arts, Leon Zilber.
