The much-awaited and talked-about visit by London's contemporary art fair, Frieze, is taking place in New York's Randall Island Park from May 4th to the 7th.

In this inaugural year of Frieze New York, 180 of the world's most exciting galleries have been assembled under one roof. It seems, however, that the main focus has been put on the creative interplay and dialog between European and American artists. Of course, the fair also includes such leading galleries as Hauser & Wirth, David Zwirner, White Cube, Gagosian, Lisson, etc. Northern Europe is being represented in the main gallery review by Standard (Oslo) from Norway, Galleri Nicolai Wallner from Denmark, and Johan Berggren Gallery from Sweden; the Moscow-London gallery Regina Gallery has also made an appearance.

Following in the tradition of London's Regent Park, a city park was also chosen as the location for the New York fair – and now a noble home for the galleries stands specially erected at Randall Island Park. The creators of the structure, the New York architect group SO-IL (Solid Objects, Idenburg and Liu), wanted to go beyond the regular meaning of the word “tent”; as a result, they have comically called their creation, whose undulating lines stretch along the picturesque shore of the East River, a “mutated pie”.

In evaluating the structure of the fair, one must admit that there definitely is an air of Frieze London about the whole thing. In New York, as in London, visitors can acquaint themselves with the newest galleries in the section Frame (which included the Stockholm gallery Crystal), stroll through the sculpture garden, listen to discussions by art market experts, as well as pleasantly spend time browsing the creative literature for sale at the on-site bookshop.

Ārzemju mesēs neesmu bijusi, "ceļoju" pa tām tikai ar Arterritory foto palīdzību :) Bet šī nu man liekas ārkārtīgi skaista. Mana favorīte līdz šim.
